What kind of visa does anyone need to work temporarely as a doctor in USA?
My best friend is a family doctor in Lima Peru and she in coming to work in Washinton state x 6 months. I guess the program of interchange is supposed to give her a special visa type such H1 but she told me has not been told anything since she intead holds a tourist visa with which she has come to USA 3 times as a tourist. She asked me what if she could use that visa and that if she is given other visa type would she loose her tourist's one, please educate me. She will be here on sept 16 I don't want her to get on trouble.

If she uses her tourist visa to come here to work, she will be breaking the law. She should contact her "program of interchange" for information.

she probably needs a H1B or J1, depending on the program. Tell her that if she uses her tourist visa she will not be able to get paid as she is not absolutely not allowed to work on a tourist visa. If she tells honestly why she is entering the country, they are probably not even let her into the country but send her right back, particularly if the program is funded by government money. If the program is funded by private money and she only gets free food and lodging and no financial compensation she might get in with a tourist visa, but it's risky. Have her contact the program exchange and get them moving.
