Why are there so many countries is south america? and what are their differences

Why are there so many countries is south america? and what are their differences?
I can understand why Brazil was it's own country because it being a Portuguese colony and not a Spanish one. But why didn't the Spanish countries of South America join together more? I know they have their differences now but hey couldn't have had many differences when they were gaining independence. Spanish Speaking: Argentina Bolivar Chile Columbia Ecuador Paraguay Peru Uruguay Venezuela Portuguese: Brazil Why didn't Gran Columbia work? and why are there so many spanish speaking countries in south america group together more?

Have you ever had a look at a recent map of Europe. We were always divided in many different countries but lately it has almost become impossible to keep up. South America is a big continent and unlike the U.S.it has always been divided through differences in the population. It was easier for a newly settled country like the U.S. to make a Confederation, the indigenous inhabitants were a small minority in comparison to the settlers, who might have been of different origin but had the same final goal.

language alone can NOT be a reason two countries should have been one. What about the US and Canada then??

I suggest this Website and Agency; http://www.galaxy.joystar.com Contact Email: galaxytravel@verizon.net
4 :
This is not a travel agency in US but they cater for people in the US. It's Lima Tours, the best in all Peru and they have a web site: www.limatours.com.pe You'll find interesting tours and discount offers in their website. They have organised millions of tours into Peru from the US. About the visa, it depends on your country of origin (where's your passport from). There is no visa for Americans but if you are in the US with a work visa, it depends on your nationality. I would play it safe and contact the Peruvian consulate in the city where you live in the US and ask them according to your nationality. Typical roundfare in January? LA - Lima like 500 $. It's high season in Peru, low season in the States, I would check travelocity, expedia, orbitz, Lanchile.com, aa.com (american airlines) as everyday there are tons of sales and discount airfares. LanChile has a direct flight from LA to Lima every day.
5 :
http://www.perujungle.com http://www.peruandes.com r/t air from California in January should be $600 check with airline or with the Peru consulate in LA to see what the entrance requirements are

I am traveling to Peru, and am using a hiking backpack..I need to check it as luggage at the airport, but I'm worried about all the straps and things getting caught. I've heard of people just using clear garbage bags to put the bag in. Does that work and is it accepted at airports? thanks

Should I quit my job and study abroad, or play the safe route

Should I quit my job and study abroad, or play the safe route?
I work full time as a nurse, and I like my shift. I want to study abroad in Peru for 4-6 weeks, studying Spanish and volunteering. I cannot take more than 2 weeks off and would probably have to quit my job. I get married next year, and this is probably my last opportunity. I am worried though, that I will hate whatever job I have when I return, considering the market, even in health care- hospitals are not hiring.
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers

I guess it really depends on whether or not you'll regret it later if you do not take the opportunity to study abroad. You could try discussing this with your employer to see if they'll give you a leave of absence or something so that you could return to your job when you get back. Strengthening your Spanish skills is certainly a positive thing, and they might go for it if you sell this as a skill-building venture.
2 :
Nurses are in demand right now ... talk to your HR person about a 60 day leave without pay. You might be able to include some vacation pay into the equation as well .. like 2 weeks vacation and 45 days of leave. Remember to ask for slightly more time than you need to account for preparation and post-trip issues. Have fun.

program for foreigners in latin american to teach language in america?
I heard up until recently maybe a year ago or so there was a program that maybe no longer exists for countries like brazil, columbia, peru and more where people can do the teaching in different schools and had to be under thirty. Have you heard of this? What is it called? Does it exist anymore? How does it work?

I haven't heard of such a program, but I don't think one is needed. I have taught school in Ecuador and Bolivia and am over 30. All you need is to get a job with a school who will get you a special visa for teachers. Most countries have that type of a visa only good as long as you are working at the school that contracted you. There is no restriction as to how old you are or what your credentials are...that depends on the school itself.

haha, i asure u it wont be much. maybe less than $2000 US DOLLARS
2 :
16,680 Peruvian Nuevo Sol = $5,777.48 US Dollar As of Saturday, August 16, 2008 1 US Dollar = 2.99565 Peruvian Nuevo Sol 1 Peruvian Nuevo Sol (PEN) = 0.33382 US Dollar (USD)
3 :
you can always get current figures for any currency conversion at www.xe.com
4 :
Due to the strength of the dollar rising a little lately $1.00 US is about S2.9...about 3 to one. Are the Nuevo Soles or old soles? Old ones are recyclable as paper. You say you have 16,680 worth. If it is 16,680 nuevo soles...it is approximately $6000.00. Best place to transfer it....take a trip to Peru and enjoy your self. Go find a Lan Peru airlines. enjoy
5 :
Why don't you ask someone whose got some money. They can charge you a fee that will compensate them for the time they need to exchange it into US$. You'll get less US$ but you won't have to wait.
6 :
hmmm tough one! you can try currency exchange on google. As for where to change it, i think the bank is the safest place. there are tons of banks in miraflores, maybe you should try one of those.

Where can I find the cheapest tickets for Multi Destination Flights

Where can I find the cheapest tickets for Multi Destination Flights?
Kayak won't give me what I need, Expedia gives me the cheapest so far, and going to the airlines websites won't work, it's more expensive. Orbitz & Travelocity is more expensive. Same with most other big ones. Looking under $1400 CAD, which I think is about $1200 USD or lower. Flight detail: Montreal, Quebec to Cuzco, Peru. Cuzco to Santiago, Chile, and Santiago back to Montreal. All in August. I don't mind multiple carriers. Any suggestions?

you can go to http://www.nadzrulsystem.com/travelivin/airfare.html to search for cheapest tickets; and destinations where you wanna go... great stuff
4 :
Try www.cheapescapade.com. Sometimes they will offer you big discounts. I recently found a ticket from SFO-MNL-HKG-ICN-SFO for only $2,000.00. Usually it cost $3000+ but they had a special. I checked it again a few days later to book it then it was gone. So try that website and if you find it significantly cheaper than other sites book it because it doesn't last long. You can also try to one way the tickets. Sometimes its cheaper but sometimes its way more expensive. Try different alternates.
5 :
The cheapest airline flying from North America to Peru is Taca. I'd recommend to take a tour once you are in Peru since you might find better deals that you wouldn't have been able to find from your country. Another airline that may offer a pretty decent deal is Lan Peru or Lan Chile (same owners).

It is possible to install mac Osx on PC. If you look around "illegal stuff" forums, I'm sure they have it. I Know they have it ;) Have a look in Google.

It's illegal man. You should abide by the rules of Apple. I will report you to Yahoo the next time you post a question like this one. Rules and laws are there for the sole reason of being followed.

I don't really have any skills to offer but I am 22, fit and healthy with a years university under my belt. If there isn't much call for cruise ships going to Peru, then I am prepared to go elsewhere if it means I can get to the continent at least. Did you see the movie "The Worlds Fastest Indian"? Does anyone know who to get a US Embassy Job.

Does anyone know who to get a US Embassy Job.?
I am moving to Peru, and I am interested in working at the US Embassy in Lima. I have the website. Everything I read says that you have to be a related to a family member to work there either that or I am misunderstanding what EFM (eligible family member) means. Isn't that nepotism?
Embassies & Consulates - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Most noncareer jobs at US embassies and consulates throughout the world (except those few requiring security clearances) are filled by natives of those countries, who are likely far better than you would be in understanding the political culture and in maintaining important contacts. I do understand your resentment at the preference given to family members, but you must understand that they too have had to pass security clearances, and if their husbands/wives were not on foreign-service duties might have had careers of their own in the US. If you don't think you can pass a foreign-service examination, there are alternatives: courrier, security officer, computor expert, communicator, secretary. But you can only get these through the State Department, and, as always, you have no assurance they will send you to Lima.
2 :
If you are relocating to Peru on your own, with all of the necessary residency and work permits, then you would be eligible to apply for embassy jobs as an OR (Ordinarily Resident). If you are the most qualified, then you would be offered the position. However, if an EFM (or other, similar designation) applicant and you are equally qualified, then preference would be given to the EFM. This is not nepotism, but rather a way to provide job opportunities to adult family members who have accompanied their embassy employed spouses/parents overseas - it is standard practice throughout the US foreign missions. I recommend that you contact the HR department of the US Embassy Lima directly: Embassy of the United States Avenida La Encalada cdra. 17 s/n Surco, Lima 33, Peru Telephone: (51-1)434-3000 Fax: (51-1)618-2397 Hours of Operation Monday - Thursday 7:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Look at this another way. Let us say that you are qualified for a position in the US emabssy in Peru. Of course you and your family will be relocated to that country. You have a son who is of legal age and can't find a job there because he does not speak the language. He may work for the embassy as he is given priority, which is EFM. Same thing goes for your wife. The reason behind is you have all been subjected to security clearances before you left. I deals more with security that anything else.**

Before you start planning your travel to Peru, you will need to get a passport. If you are from the USA, you will get a tourist visa stamped in your passport which will allow you up to 6 months in Peru, after which you will need to leave the country for a couple of days and then get a new visa when you return. A good Spanish phrase book, a guide book or partial guide on the ares you will be seeing, and a good tourist oriented map. You will arrive in Lima, which basically has a climate like southern California. The mountain areas can be very cold. The jungle and very north coast of Peru can get very hot and humid. So, you need to take clothes with you appropriate to the places you want to visit. Everything else you will need depends on your likes and dislikes. You don't need to pack a whole lot since everything is available in Peru at a reasonable price. There is no need to pack differently than traveling in the USA. Get a belt for your important documents (passport, credit cards, etc.). The best place to wear the belt is around your calf under some Levis. There are many good sites on Peru with a lot of tips. Don't worry, you'll have a great time!

Well i think it is safer for you to exchange your money in your native country, obviously depending on where you intend to go! If you are going to the tourist areas, you should be fine. Basic sun-cream kinda stuff The weather will be hot in a few months, But i would advice some kind of bum bag, i know they are not fashionable but trust me you DO NOT WANT TO BE CARRYING A HANDBAG AROUND LIMA! I honestly wore a flat bum bag style thing under my tshirt like on the bottom of my tummy, i was with 32 people. EVERYONE got mugged, at least once. Having said that I am an aid worker out there and do not spend too much time in tourist areas. But tourists do get mugged a lot there. If you have a camera get it out appropriate places, get some kind of attached rope for it around your neck! so no one can grab and run. I would advice you to visit schools in poor areas and rich, it's an amazing experience and they always welcome a friendly face! Read up on Peru's history, incas and the shining path, because you will witness and experience a real peru not just as a tourist. be aware of police, they can be quite dangerous there and either not too friendly or TOO friendly. ALWAYS HAGGLE! People will up your prices as they see you comingha aha! I feel in love with Peru. Everything about it is amazing, and if you do open your eyes not just to the more developed areas, i promise you it will change your life! Good luck and have fun, you really will! Don't let me scare you with some of this, it's just i wish someone would have told me this kind of stuff, before i got there! It really is amazing, you will have the time of your life:) Love, Luck &Jealousy! oh just thought if you go to Mira Flores (outside Lima central) Try to stay at the flying dog hostel, it's great and a really good way to meet other travelers and make new friends! :)

Rafael.. I do not want to insult you but...you maybe might believe something that really isn't true. Somebody doesn't just discover a trading site, put some money into stocks, and then just collect piles of money. LOL Sure a few get lucky (very few). (very, very very few) extremely, more people with that mentality lose money, than make it. I believe of the so professionals out there, most of them do not know how to trade...they know how to make money on your trades. I would suggest...If you want to make money trading that you educate your self first, and you will be surprised on how much you need to learn. (depending on your investment strategy) Personally I think Investors business Daily is a great place to start. Then, after you think that you know what your doing... then start to trade on paper (make believe) Its not the same, but if you keep good records on your buy and sell--your profit and loss, and your happy with it....then start out small, and see what how you do. Or........find an on line broker, throw a bunch of thousands out there get rich!

I've used Charles Schwab for 15 years www.schwab.com

First off, save until you have at least $2000-$5000 USD to invest before you begin working with real stocks. While you're saving for your initial investment, do as much reading as you can on sites like Motley Fool, MSN Money, Google Finance, and Yahoo Finance, among others. You should also practice virtual stock trading at places like Yahoo or Wall Street Survivor. Another good place to learn one investor's technique is Jim Van Meerten's Financial Tides blog at http://financialtides.blogspot.com. He mainly works with growth stocks, but his criteria for choosing what to invest in is worth studying. It's a good idea to figure out what you want from your stock investment, because what you want will determine the type of investments you'll make. A suggestion: Once you do start investing with real money, consider investing in dividend stocks, at first, as these will pay you a small amount of money every three months, which you can use either to buy more shares of the same stock (automatic dividend reinvestment) or shares in different stocks (self-directed). To continue investing after your initial investment, it's good to do dollar-cost averaging, which means that you invest perhaps $100 USD a month in shares of a certain stock, and you'll be able to buy more or fewer shares with that $100 each month, depending on the share price at the time you buy. This will help you to accumulate more shares of a stock more quickly than you could with dividend reinvestment alone. It's a good idea to save enough money to buy 100 shares of at least one stock, so you know that, whatever the dividend is, you'll get 100 times that each quarter. So a dividend per share of $0.25 would mean a quarterly distribution to you of $25.00, presuming you own 100 shares. If the share price happens to be something liks $20.00, you'll be in the happy position of getting slightly more than one new share per 100 you already own, from the dividend you'll get each quarter. The more stocks you own, the better a deal you'll get from the distribution over time, depending on the stock price. I use Schwab's online service and its research tools, but ScotTrade is also good, and its fee per trade is $7.00, versus Schwab's $12.95.
4 :
I use Scottrade. I'm pretty happy with them. Check out their website at scottrade.com But before you run out and lose money, learn more about the markets and how they work. I would suggest using a virtual stock market program to test your investing strategy. I use the one at http://education.optionseducation.org/ to test my theories. You should get a feel for what it is like to buy and sell with "play money" before you put down your real money. I only tell you this because it is what I wish I had done instead of losing $10,000 in the first year I traded on the markets.
5 :
I use share builder. $4 to invest in an automatic investment plan and $9.95 to sell or trade.
6 :
hi there ! I think you are a newbie and as such I would like to suggest you gnutrade trading platform to practice not only currencies but also stocks, commodoties and stocks. The play money feature will help you to practice until you feel that you are confident to go ahead with real money. Learning Center will help you to learn things which you do not know.. all the very best... practice daily

Plug Adapters and Converters for Peru?
I'm traveling to peru on monday( i will be in a home stay and not a hotel) and i need to buy at least some plug adapters...but i don't know which kind. when i lived in Chile, the outlets were little round circles..is it the same in peru? and in chile, i had a converter but my small electronics (camera, ipod, phone charger) all worked fine without the converter. Will I need to buy another one for peru(for the same electronics) ?? thank you !

Plugs in Peru are both the type you're describing for Chile, the "European type" of two pins, pictured here http://www.connevans.co.uk/store/images/776947ecb.gif And the type of two flat blades used in the USA, pictured here http://www.connevans.co.uk/store/images/776855ecb.gif Peru uses 220 volts/60 cycles. You'll need a converter (if your appliances are 110 volts) as well as plug adapters if you don't already have the compatible plugs.
2 :
there electric is based on a 220 volt system unlike america but the plugs that are in america are the same in all of south america the only issue that you will for see is that the house have limited outlets unlike america you will be lucky to find one on each wall, make sure you use a converter on all 120 volt items, Computers and cell phones you will not have any problem will. there is something called a name plate on all of your things this will tell you the working voltage for everything you have if it says 100-250 you do not need a converter but if it only says 100 -120 you will. i did not know this and i burt up and electric razor in malaysia. good luck have a safe trip

Can I pay off ecuadorian border officials to get into the country for one day

Can I pay off ecuadorian border officials to get into the country for one day?
I want to know if I can pay off an ecuadorian border patrol official to let me in from Brazil. I am an american and have no criminal intent. Its just that my tourist visa in ecuador will expire before my return flight back to the states and I would like to go to brazil or Peru after the expiration of my Visa. Do you think it will work? I just need to get back into ecuador for one day to catch my return flight home. Thanks!

Maybe, maybe not. It is also possible that you could be arrested for trying to bribe them and/or sneaking into the country. I'd try to get a short extension.
2 :
I doubt it very much and i personally wouldn't attempt it, why not get in touch with the place that issued you the visa and ask them what to do. You might end up in a Brazilian prison and i don't think you would enjoy the experience.
3 :
If you leave ecuador, cross over into brazil or peru, then try to go back into ecuador, you should receive a fresh visa. So, you should have no problems. Leave ecuador, hang out for a bit in peru or brazil, then when you need to go back to ecuador you should get a new stamp in your passport, and in turn a new tourist visa. You may get less days on your visa than you got before, but should be a month at least, and enough to catch your flight home. This border crossing proceedure is pretty common for extending stays in any country in South America.
4 :
maybe .. im from ecuador . if you get pull over you give them 5bucks and they let you gooooo.,
5 :
even though it's illegal i probably think that for 50 bucks u could do it.!.. by the way Ecuador's amazing!
6 :
As Tony said, you just need to get your passport re-stamped when you re-enter Ecuador. Remember, they are still going to check your passport when you pay your Airport Tax to leave the country, and if the most recent visa in your passport has expired, you will not only not be allowed to board your plane, but you will have to go to a government office and pay a fine before they'll let you leave. I had a friend who had accidentally been here in Ecuador for 91 days last summer on a 90-day tourist visa when she tried to leave. They wouldn't let her on a plane until she paid a several-hundred dollar fine, and ended up missing the original flight and having to catch another the next morning.

Do you think you could say some of these? It'll be easier to get a correct answer

What do you do with a teenager who is so afraid to fail that she is afraid to try

What do you do with a teenager who is so afraid to fail that she is afraid to try?
My daughter has always been "the perfect child". And I'm afraid my telling her so may have set up a fear of failure for her. She is a very intelligent child but she makes horrible grades. I keep telling her how important good grades are for her future and she says that she gets it. In fact, she has an opportunity to go to Peru in June with the Girl Scouts, but it's contingent on her having a 3.0 GPA. She really wants to go and I see her trying, yet when she misses a day of school, it seems almost impossible for her to make up the work that she's missed. I see her trying, yet half of her grades are D's from work not turned in. It seems to me that maybe she just is not trying so hard so that when she has to hear the bad news that she can't go to Peru, she can say "well, I didn't really want to go that badly anyway". Thanks in advance for your feedback. She's almost 15 -- 9th grade. Daniel. She's the light of my life. I genuinely enjoy her company. And she lights up everyones room just by entering it. I can't help but smile when she's around. Thanks.

Zig Ziglar has some motivation to share as do many athletes as Michael Jordan (I failed more times than I succeeded, that is why I'm a winner), Wayne Gretsky (100% of the shots not taken miss), Helen Keller (failure is a sign to keep on trying). You can grab their books for free from the library... try discussing it with her. Nothing ventured nothing gained. You can also pick up 7 habit of highly effective people... create a mission statement with her to help her focus. Failure is not failure if you learned something. Best of luck to you!
2 :
geez thats rough. myself i've always been a perfectionist, and as such, a procrastinator. also had trouble making up work after missing class. how old is the child? i'm giong to guess 6th 7th or 8th grade. here is what i propose, tell her of course as you have been, that good grades are important, and as such, taht you wnat to spend quality time with her helping her with her homework, so that she can get thsoe grades up. when i was that age, my mother was perfectly devoted to my academic life, and to be honest, i never woudl have got better than Cs if she hadnt. that is the hardest time, academically, because at that time, your brain is growing and youre in adolescence. its a crazy time, when shes a little older you wont have to help her. but i think you shoudl now.
3 :
I don't think that it's fear for the reasons that you believe it is... I believe that by failing, a child learns to muscle their way out from under the heavy expectations of a doting parent, and find out for themselves exactly how academically perfect they want to be as opposed to how much "less than perfect." you are willing to tolerate. . My oldest is a genius. He had a 160 I.Q. from an abnormally young age. I pushed and prodded and voiced my expectations, I showed him off like a show pony and pleaded and punished and cursed and swore when he slipped down past what were, MY expectations of his intelligence. In the process, I lost him for a little while... I didn't see why either... It was hard lesson to learn for me but Pride indeed does come before every fall... He... sat ME... down one day and using the voice I gave him, (but tried to silence, at the very same time whenever it was convienient to me.) he asked me; "Would you would love me as much if I got all B's instead of all A's?" It damn near broke my heart to see that he had been feeling that way for so long before actually coming out and asking me. I think THAT... Is where the fear lies. Not in a fear of failure. Children learn from their failures just as much if not more than they do from their achievements. Think about it... You know I am right! I don't pressure him anymore and although he is no longer on the Deans list and getting accomidations from the President... He is much, MUCH happier... and that, is worth the world to me.
4 :
Oh Comet...what you need to do is boost her confidence and ask her about the school work that interests her and what she dislikes. Don't argue with her, try to listen to her and talk to her about everything that is on her mind. I'm pretty sure your relationship with her allows this, I imagine you as a great parent. I worked with teenage girls back in my town and most of the time they are getting distracted by boys, hormones or because they don't see that what they do or don't has consequences until reality hits and heart break sets in. I used to talk to most of my students when their grades started dropping and most of the time it was because of trouble at home or because boys were starting to appear in the picture. If Peru is important to her, let her know in advance what the requirements for the trip are and that you are willing to help her in any way you can to reach this goal, but she has to be willing to go the extra mile even if she has to sacrifice something (like her time, hanging out with friends, talking on the phone, etc.) As soon as you see improvement of some kind, make sure she knows you are aware. Teenagers are going through a lot while growing up...all those changes happening all at once are sometimes just too much, but with patience and by avoiding confrontation you are sure to succeed. Good luck...Hang in there.
5 :
There is a very very very simple answer- love; spend more time together, and smile everytime you see her.
6 :
Wow. She just might be my female version. So far, no one has found a way to get my ass to working, so I only can wish you a good luck with that.
7 :
I think she could use some help with organization. The worst thing that can happen to any student is to get behind. Once behind, it feels like there is no way to ever be on top of things again. This in itself may be the cause of a lot of her discouragement. Being behind feels like being down a well. Kids are rarely taught how to organize themselves in the school system. In the Early Years, there are places in the classroom to hand in every type of paper product work going. Once a kid hits Middle Years, this changes. Students are expected to be more responsible and accountable and organized, but we have not really taught them how to do that! Know what her assignments are. Get a homework notebook, or dayplanner with an appropriate amount of room for writing down details. Be sure that you teach her to include the stuff (like texts, etc) that she needs for each assignment. Make a large calendar for her home school work space. Post assignments on this calendar every single time! Look at her notebooks and see how she takes notes and places her materials. If she uses scribblers or duotangs, assignments are really easy to lose as they are not attached to anything. Binders with dividers and the zip-up edges tend to 'retain' more information. At Wal-Mart they have these clear coloured plastic envelopes... they are the size of a standard sheet of paper. These are great for handing in assignments. Keeps everything clean. If you have to move from one organization system to another, have her bring home EVERYTHING so you can gauge the appropriate sizes that she needs. Now... My apologies for the long post... especially if your daughter has none of the troubles that I've gone on about. I have a bit more! (Sorry!) One thing that I do in my classroom for those afraid to try is "set them up for success." For some kids this just boils down to PROVING to them that they CAN do the work. How to do this? Teaching them what works for THEM in organizing is usually my first step. I acknowledge EVERY success, no matter how seemingly small. Discouragement is met with encouragement, tasks are broken down into smaller steps (I teach them how to prioritize so they can do so for themselves), and everybody uses graphic organizers like the calendar and dayplanner that I mentioned. It has yet not to work. We just tweak it so it fits the students needs... Best Wishes... hope some of my babble made sense! :) PS-> I forgot a bit... colour code by subject... and I check in EVERYDAY with my students to see how things are working for them... at least at the start. After that, they rise to meet expectations pretty quickly.
8 :
Yes, your daughter seems to be afraid of her future and the expectations she feels is coming from her parents or peers or both!! Maybe you have put too much pressure on her to succeed. Let her know that you love regardless of her "potential" and cut her some slack as far as her life choices go. It's Her Life not yours. She just needs more confidence in herself but maybe she heard how Much She Could Accomplish and it resulted in stress and fear of the future. Back off for awhile Mom and let her know that her life belongs to her, not to you!! Too Much Pressure!! I know you love her and want her to have the best life she can make for herself, but Herself is the point you need to understand. Let her make her own choices and plan her Own life. It will make you happier in the long run if you can stop asking more out of her than she is able and willing to give right now. If that doesn't work, or you can't get off her back, she needs counseling but it will revolve around exactly the point I am trying to make here. Good Luck!! We All Deserve to Live Our Own Lives As Individuals!! @8-]

Does she need Citizenship, Sponsorship or to be Married

Does she need Citizenship, Sponsorship or to be Married?
My girlfriend lives in Peru and wants to move to New York to work for a law firm. She will get her bachelors degree in general law from the best university in Lima. She also has lots of internship experience. In order for her to get a job here for a law firm, does she need to be a citizen? She has a travel visa for the next 10 years. Maybe a work visa? Is it difficult to obtain a work visa?
Immigration - 6 Answers

yyou gotta make a sacrifice and more to Peru..thats the best advice i can give
2 :
well, citizenship or a green card would certainly make that easier. however, a work visa would do, but that would be up to any potential employer to file the paperwork to allow her to get a work visa. It's more expense and time for the employer, of course, so she'd have to convince them she was worth it.
3 :
Your girlfriend needs to be sponsored by an employer before she can legally work here in the USA. The travel visa is known as a B2 tourist visa. Tourists are not allowed to work legally here in the USA. If a NY law firm will sponsor her, then she may receive permission to work here. If you decide to marry her, then as a US citizen, you would petition for your foreign-born wife to become a US citizen. It takes time, interviews and must be a legal marriage. It will not pass the "smell test" if it is a marriage just so she can come work here. Good luck to you both.
4 :
She will need to either be a legal permanent resident (which she could get by marrying you), or by getting a work visa. However, it is unlikely that she will be able to get a work visa in her field. To be a lawyer in the U.S. she will either need a US J.D. degree (3 year law degree), or the equivalent from her home country followed by an LLM degree (1 year law degree, usually requires the person be a lawyer in their home country). If she just wants to work as a paralegal (or something similar), she won't be able to get a working visa, because almost all working visas are only for jobs that require a minimum of a bachelor's degree, which a paralegal does not.
5 :
Your girlfriend is not allowed to work in the U.S. right now. She is not eligible for Citizenship: that requires that you first live here as a permanent resident for a period of time, usually 5 years. If you marry her now, you will be scheduled for a "Stokes" fraudulent marriage interview, because you have been married less than 2 years and because you are currently living apart. It will be very hard for you to prove that it is a 'bona fide' marriage at this point. Sponsorship is her best bet. Any law firm that wants to hire her simply has to file an I-140 petition on her behalf. Here is the link to getting the I-140: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=4a5a4154d7b3d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD
6 :
1. you don't just get citizenship. Not even by marriage. 2. A law firm can sponsor her, but if she leaves the firm, then her work permit would be immediately revoked, as her reason to be in the US would no longer exist. 3. a travel visa EXCLUDES working in the country that issued the visa. 4. in order to work, she would need a social security number and that is separated from the immigration process

American Indian Peru protection beads

American Indian Peru protection beads?
My friend has recently been getting in touch with his spiritual and religious side. He's a Catholic. Anyway, today at work an elderly lady wearing an American Indian poncho came up to him with a bracelet made from beads and shells... she insisted that he wear it and say it was made by American Indians in Peru and it would be protection for him. She kept insisting and making it clear that it would be protection for him. Does anyone know anything about American Indians in Peru and what this bracelet could mean? Why would she choose him randomly out of all the people in the shopping mall?

Beads are/were used for hunting power, spiritual meaning, beauty, wealth, personal identity and protection. She may just have been a natural "seer" one who can sense attributes in people and he was just one that caught her attention. or she was there with hundreds of them and was hoping to get some money for it. either way the beads are pretty and she may have cast a protection spell on them so tell him not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
2 :
For hundreds of years Native Peruvians believed in the energy that certain beads have to protect the person who is wearing them from disease, bad spirits and envy from other people. I can't really tell what the beads that the old lady gave you can do, because different beads have different effects on you. The most well known one is the huayruro, which protects you from other people's envy (bringing negative energies and bad luck to your life). By the way, I always carry two huayruros in my wallet. It doesn't hurt to try.

How do I keep a tropical plant alive outside during the winter months in north carolina

How do I keep a tropical plant alive outside during the winter months in north carolina?
I am tring to grow a bunch of tropical plants(most are native to Peru) in north carolina and was wondering if I could use a lot of mulch to protect the roots in hope it would go dormant each winter and return to normal growth in spring. I have had success with Angels trumpets like thisand am wondering if it would work with a tropical liana.
Garden & Landscape - 3 Answers

1 :
All I can say is try it and see what happens. Heavy mulching is recommended for things like rose bushes in colder areas, so the root systems don't freeze and die. But, the problem with tropicals is that they expect good growing conditions year round, like they would experience in the tropics. I know something like a banana tree can easily be killed off completely during a cold snap, even in moderate climates like Southern California. Specifically what liana variety are you trying to grow? I've had success with clematis vines that would die off in the winter and sprout again in the spring (which actually surprised me - I thought I killed it).
2 :
I have lived in NC all my life. Now I live at the beach & it is impossible to keep tropical plants alive during the winter here. Winters here are nothing like the climates of Peru. You must bring tropical plants here if you want to keep them alive. Tonight the temperatures are in the 20's with wind chills in the teens. They just cannot survive outside in these temps. The only plant that has survived this cold winter are the hens & chicks. Since we have such mild falls here I keep my plants outside until about Thanksgiving. Then I bring them in until late March. Charlotte here... and I built a greenhouse specifically to house my tropicals for the winter... no more room for them in the house!!!..... there's a few that make it here, but so few it's sad.... banana plants, the musa basjoo will make it... elephant ears make it if mulched... but everything else, from palms to dracaena to esperanza, bouganvillia, mandevilla, etc, all need protection from cold here.....the Montana clematis grows well here and survives winter nicely.... it would go up a tree where there was plenty of sunlight... http://www.malby.info/flowers/flowersbig/clematis_montana_rubens_170.jpg http://www.srgc.org.uk/discus/messages/283/32355.jpg but a vine that couldn't take the cold would have to resprout from the roots yearly and that's a lot of stress for a plant that would usually not face that struggle.....

How do I get my fiance back to the US!!!

How do I get my fiance back to the US!!!?
We both live in Italy. Im American and I work here. She is from Peru but has no documents to be in Italy. How do I get her back to the states without getting married? Step by step please. why is this so complicated?!??!?

1 :
I would think she would have to go back to her own country since she is ILLEGAL in Italy, and apply legally there. It is not complicated. It is just following the rules.
2 :
You can apply for a fiance visa. Just be advised that every process with immigration costs money and takes time. Most of your questions can be answered on this website: www.uscis.gov Good Luck! I went through all this with my husband. He's from Paraguay.
3 :
Here is the fiance process. Remember, though, that in order to take her to the US you must be committed to marrying her within 90 days of her arrival. If you aren't ready to marry her, she can only apply for a tourist visa, which she probably won't get. By the way, US consular officers don't actually care if your fiancee is illegal in Italy: http://intranet.ca.state.gov/CAWEB_ARCHIVE_8_1_2005/travel/travel/visa/immigrants_types_marriage2.html#4a

Can iPhones go evrywhere?
I have a friend from Peru who works througout Latin America. She is visiting here in the states and want to buy an iPhone (Apple iPhone 3G S - 32 GB). Can she buy it here and use it there? Can she buy the device here and attach it to a plan there? Forgive me, I know nothing about iPhones. PS Is there a best place to buy it?

Has anyone ever volunteered with Friend Ships Unlimited? What was your experience like

Has anyone ever volunteered with Friend Ships Unlimited? What was your experience like?
www.friendships.org -- Friend Ships Unlimited (Park West Children's Fund, Inc.), provides large scale humanitarian and disaster aid and supports ongoing programs that are having an ongoing impact on their communities. A person can volunteer to work with them. They send "mercy ships" to places in need of supplies and as we speak are mounting an effort to send a ship with supplies to the help the people of the earthquake disaster region of Peru. I would like to hear from anyone who has worked with Friend Ships. I am retired, in good health, and giving thought to the possibility of working with them myself.

I have not worked with them, but I have read about their work. I think you should definitely volunteer with that group, and then - here is the important part - write up a report on your experiences and submit it to Reader's Digest. Keep a diary of your experiences every day.

Places to visit while in Peru

Places to visit while in Peru?
I am in the process of sorting out a trip to Peru for 2.5 months to do some voluntary work with a group of 11 more people, and while I am out there I will have a few days off here and there and was just wondering what there is to do and see in the Lima & Las Flores areas. Who we are organising through have the place down as Las Flores so it is just what I wrote. I did look though and see that was it's name

Its not las flores lol its Miraflores http://lima.2night.com/home (for nightlife) EDIT: I don't know ""las flores"" but that should be your volunteer work perhaps? most likely you will be volunteering in poor areas so on your free time go to Miraflores and have fun there. You do not want to be in poor areas after dusk as it is kind of dangerous. What part are you going exactly?
2 :
maybe you are taking las flores which is in a district call san juan de lurigancho, its a popular district and in some zones dangerous if you want to have fun you must go out of there, you can go to "cerro san cristobal" its a place where you can watch all the city also is a good idea to go out of lima you can to ica is very near and cheap
3 :
I don't know Las Flores, never been there, but on your days off you could go to MIRAFLORES, that's a very touristic district in Lima. There are lots of casinos, night clubs,...nice restaurants, too! There's this shopping mall called LARCOMAR. If you go there, go to Aura or Gotica (nightclubs).. it's like $15 cover. Is it wrong to meet coffee with an ex when you're in a new relationship

Is it wrong to meet coffee with an ex when you're in a new relationship?
I've been dating a guy I really care about for eight months now. We hit it off unusually fast and are now living together. He helps me out time to time financially and is very caring and loving. He's in his early/mid thirties and I am 23. We have our arguments now and then and I sometimes feel pressure to perfect and "have this perfect relationship" with him. I think arguing can be healthy for a relationship when both parties are able to get over it quickly. It keeps things exciting every once in a while. My ex and I of almost three years officially broke off all contact after I became interested in the guy I am currently seeing. We were "on again off again" at the same and when I officially broke it off (we really were not getting along, whatsoever), he decided to get some work experience in Peru since he'd just graduated. That was in August of 2010 and his contract at his job just ended. He is now back in the city. I do still care about him as a person, and am curious to see if he's changed at all. I don't think there's any way possible I could love him more than who am with now, because we get along really well. However, he wants to get coffee. I don't know how i'd feel afterwards and I don't like disrespecting the people I am seeing. I just don't know how wrong getting coffee with an ex is. I know I probably shouldn't, but at the same time, I am only 23. What's wrong with getting coffee?

1 :
yes.
2 :
Of course it's wrong. How would you feel if your current b/f went off to meet his ex for a coffee?
3 :
There's nothing wrong with getting coffee. What's wrong is getting yourself into a serious rebound relationship right after a long term one, and then moving in together after only 8 months. What's happening now is predictable, whether it's an old flame or someone entirely different, because you are moving at warp speed. You're trying to justify it by saying you're curious about him, but the truth is that after a 3 year relationship blew up, you weren't/aren't ready to be so serious with someone else. And the age difference is also significant. It sounds like he's about 12 years older than you and at your age this is quite a bit. I'd slow everything down.
4 :
Take your current BF with you to visit the old beau and all is well otherwise you are definetly cheating and no good will come of it, or break up first, move out, stop taking money and then go do what you please
5 :
What is wrong with it is that you think it is disrespectful to your current partner. Therefore, it is. If something makes you question whether it is right or wrong, it is usually wrong for you. Think how you would feel if your boyfriend went out for coffee with a woman he was seriously involved with in the past. If it would upset you if he did it, don't do it. If you can honestly say you'd be okay with it, then discuss this coffee meeting with your current boyfriend and if he expresses concern, don't go.
6 :
Ann, in my opinion your tempting fate by doing this and you have to ask yourself how would you feel if your current boy friend was doing this with some ex of his, especially if he didn't know about it. What if he saw you and the ex out having coffee? Not cool. I advise against it, but if you do go meet him its only fair that your current man knows about it.

I'm jealous of her!! Help

I'm jealous of her!! Help?
I was recently added on facebook by an old friend who I spent a lot of summers with whenever I went to France (my dad and his family is from France). We had a great time with each other when we were younger but the last time I saw her I felt she had become a bit too superficial for me to handle (she grew up in Paris and now goes to University there). Anyway, it's been three years now and I'm looking through her photos, through her music (which she has great taste in), her videos - she goes to the concerts I've been dying to go to, she's always partying and having a good time, wearing the latest fashion, and she's going to one of the BEST universities in France (where all the smart, wealthy kids go). I do a lot of volunteer work (went to Peru last summer), I go to an average University in a college town, I keep up with my style but I don't have the money for the latest fashion, and it's a bit harder to "party" here because of the age limit and strict bouncers (haha). I can't help but compare myself to her (I'm 20, she's 19) and feel this wave of jealousy overcome me. Does anyone know how I can STOP feeling jealous, STOP comparing myself to her, and just feel happy for her?

Well, its good that you see all the good stuff you have and have done and to know that no one is perfect, wealthy,or beautiful, that may be her facebook page but that doesn't mean that's her real life and if it is the don't get jealous just be happy for her and do stuff you like to do and makes you happy..Its all about you and your happiness!! lol
2 :
Just stop comparing yourself to her! That will help I would know trust me I have Benny nealis so many times before And if you stop comparing her o you then it will all get better :)
3 :
Jealousy is a powerful feeling. You got to stop thinking about yourself, and maybe try to be grateful for what you got, because not everyone can get as far like you. And maybe try talking to your friend about how you feel. You never know, she might be going through things, but she never has told you.
4 :
Just start thinking like a friend. There's a reason to be jealous, but if you look at it in a different way, you'll see that a lot of people would like to be in your position, so don't be like "she's better", because a lot of people are going to be like "what the heck is this lady thinking, she goes to college, and is in a good position in life and is still unsatisfied, what the heck does lady want?" and then you won't make friends because your always going after that better girl (which is a good thing, but you still have a good life.) You know some people would love to go to college but can't afford it, so just accept that you have a good life, too :).
5 :
Everything is not what it seems. I have been in the "cool" party scene but felt like that wasn't meant for me it wasn't what I thought it wanted. Enjoy what you have now cause when you don't have it you'll regret not appreciatingg it enough.

Can you put this paragraph into your own words

Can you put this paragraph into your own words?
The English Punk style began to gain attention when the Sex Pistols wore clothes from Westwood and McLaren's shop at their first gig. The "punk style" included BDSM fashion, bondage gear, safety pins, razor blades, bicycle or lavatory chains on clothing and spiked dog collars for jewelry, as well as outrageous make-up and hair. Essential design elements include the adoption of traditional elements of Scottish design such as tartan fabric. Amongst the more unusual elements of her style is the use of historical 17th and 18th century cloth cutting principles, and reinterpreting these in, for instance, radical cutting lines to mens trousers. Use of these traditional elements make the overall effect of her designs more shocking. Other influences in Westwood's work have included Peru, the feminine figure, velvet and knitwear

You can't, because there is no such thing. There IS an international drivers permit, which is merely a translation of your current valid drivers license into several languages and is to be carried with your valid license, not in place of it. If you don't have a valid license, you can't get a IDP either.
2 :
You do not need an IDL. You can get a regular Virginia license. Go to www.dmv.state.va.us

After marriage, can i still remain a dependent of my parents and use their health insurance

After marriage, can i still remain a dependent of my parents and use their health insurance?
My Peruvian fiance and I are thinking about getting married (only civil ceremony) now, in order to be able to have a religious ceremony in Peru next year and start working on getting his visa to the U.S. My only concern is that, if im legally married, I wont be able to be my parents dependent any more, and therefore loose my health insurance. If there is no way to get around that, we will have to wait to get married because Im 21 and a college student... and obviously need health insurance...

Your parents would have to check with their insurance company or with the HR representative at their employer to see whether or not you can still be covered. I doubt if you can, but it can't hurt to check. You may be able to get affordable health insurance through your college. That's another thing that it can't hurt to call and ask.
2 :
No. Once you're married you're no longer a dependent. And getting coverage from your college is ridiculous advice. It's usually very expensive and horrible coverage.
3 :
No you cannot remain on your parents policy once you are married. At your age an individual policy will be affordable in most states. Call a local agent for assistance. The policies available depend on where you live, and an experienced agent can narrow down your options to one that best fits your needs in just a few minutes. Avoid the online shopping, there is just simply too much information, and too many scams to watch out for. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com
4 :
Nope!
5 :
If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.
6 :
Sorry, you're out of luck; once you marry, you are no longer considered to be a dependent of your parents for insurance purposes.
7 :
Short and sweet. You get married and you will lose your insurance.

Please help me!! What dangers in Peru will I face

Please help me!! What dangers in Peru will I face?
I'm going to Peru this summer, if everything works out right. I am a minor, and I've never flown a plane before. I will be comming down from California. I know the very basics of Spanish, I've done 2 years and I'm redoing the first now because my new school only has spanish 1 and I figured that taking the course over again was better than taking no spanish at all. I will be with my girlfriend's family, I've never met them before but I've heard very much about them, as they have of me. She will not be able to be there with me. What are the dangers in Peru that I will be facing? Are there any particular laws that I have to be aware of? Please please help me... Btw, I will be in Lima

ive been, so i know some of the things to worry about...there are some parasites specific to that area that you might catch (although highly unlikely), and sicknesses also. the culture is not completely the opposite so i wouldnt worry about laws that you would break, unless you are planning to drive. basically just use your common sense and have fun :)
2 :
First-Be aware of taxis in the airport who will often charge way too much to take you to your destination. Second-the cheaper taxis are out on Elmer Faucett street in front of the airport terminal, but these sometimes will assault and rob you if you do not sem familiar with Lima, You must negotiate the fare to be paid before you get into the taxi. You never ask them how much as they will rip you off big time, Find out from someone in the airport how much the fare should be and then act like you know what you are doing when you get into the taxi. Beyond that there are lots of pick-pockets in Lima, so be careful with your money. Do not trust people who are too friendly with you, as they may be about to assault you. Many sections of Lima are safe during the day, but at Night they are very dangerous especially for Gringos. Be very careful on buses, and do not wear expensive watches etc, as they will attract the wrong kind of attention from thieves. Do not try to change money in the streets as often you will be given fake currency. Always have a document as the police can ask you for them at any time. In general be careful and have a good time. GOd bless.
3 :
Lima is generally OK, but stay away from the bad neighborhoods and the slum areas. I'm sure your girlfriend's family will tell you where not to go and what not to do. Areas such as Miraflores are fine – just don't wander around too much late at night. For some guidelines and tips for staying safe in Peru have a look at the article below.

What kind of visa does anyone need to work temporarely as a doctor in USA?
My best friend is a family doctor in Lima Peru and she in coming to work in Washinton state x 6 months. I guess the program of interchange is supposed to give her a special visa type such H1 but she told me has not been told anything since she intead holds a tourist visa with which she has come to USA 3 times as a tourist. She asked me what if she could use that visa and that if she is given other visa type would she loose her tourist's one, please educate me. She will be here on sept 16 I don't want her to get on trouble.

1 :
If she uses her tourist visa to come here to work, she will be breaking the law. She should contact her "program of interchange" for information.
2 :
she probably needs a H1B or J1, depending on the program. Tell her that if she uses her tourist visa she will not be able to get paid as she is not absolutely not allowed to work on a tourist visa. If she tells honestly why she is entering the country, they are probably not even let her into the country but send her right back, particularly if the program is funded by government money. If the program is funded by private money and she only gets free food and lodging and no financial compensation she might get in with a tourist visa, but it's risky. Have her contact the program exchange and get them moving.
